If you want to experience the local tradition, you should try the tasteful delicacies. Marzipans and local sweets are made of a variety of fruits, while raki and citron are traditional beverages. Have lunch or dinner at one of the taverns, where you can enjoy the local food and the cheese of Naxos, Graviera, which is a protected name due to its unique origin. You can visit Portara, the main landmark of Naxos, which is a giant entrance and the only remnant of an ancient temple dedicated to Apollo found on the island of Palatia. It remains intact from the years of Venetian empire (1207 - 1564) and is an important part of Naxos’ history.
