| The Glenburn Hotel is only a 5-minute stroll to Windermere. It is perfectly placed within Cumbria to make the most of the Lake District itself. Whether by car or on foot, the dramatic landscapes, rugged fells, inspiring lakes and hidden valleys are there to be explored from your accommodation. From steam boats to sail boats and windsurfing, or cycling to climbing, there are plenty of exciting activities. And if thats too energetic for you, then simply visit the wealth of splendid stately homes, gardens, castles and abbeys. Whatever time of the year you visit, the Lake District has so much to offer, and well do our everything to make sure that your stay is nothing short of wonderful. The Glenburn Hotel is also situated close to Windermere village, one of the oldest settlements in Cumbria and the Lake District. Windermere achieved its modern status as one of the Lake Districts most vibrant towns with the arrival of the railway in 1847. Since the 19th-century, visitors have come to Windermere and nearby Bowness to take in the wonderful views of Lake Windermere (named after the Norse settler Vinand as in Vinands mere) and sample the delights of central Lakeland. Windermere boasts many fine shops and a walk around the centre of the town reveals a wealth of slate and limestone buildings in various architectural styles. Windermeres close proximity to Bowness (the two towns are often thought of as one) allows it to share the delights of Bowness whilst keeping a charming character of its own. |
