In Fátima you can visit the Santuary with is huge plaza, the Basilica, the Chapel of Apparitions and the recently inaugurated Church of the Most Holy Trinity, with capacity for 9000 people (seated). Nearby, you can visit Valinhos, where there is the Etnographic Museum as well as several other points of interest related to the apparitions such as the Houses of the Little Shepherds and Lúcias Well. You can take a trip to see the mediaeval castles of the area (Ourém, Porto de Mós and Leiria). Or you could enjoy the natural surroundings of The Serra DAire Natural Park. In Candeeiros you can see dinosaur footprints and the famous grottoes. You could also pay a visit to the monastery at Batalha (a short 18 km drive), or see the abbey in Alcobaça (a short 35 km drive), from where the fishing village of Nazaré can easily be reached. |
