A Junior Suite is also available with a small drawing room, satellite LCD TV set and jacuzzi bath tube. The origins of Amalfi can be traced back to the Roman Empire. Between the tenth and the eleventh century, it became a great commercial and military power in the Tyrrhenian sea; the city coined its own money, the Tarì, and established the first international navigation code Thabulae De Amalphia. Amalfi opened embassies and colonies in many countries, such as in Byzantium, Alexandria in Egypt and Tunis. In Jerusalem, it founded a large hospital, run by what was later to become the Order of the Knights of Malta. But in the twelth century, the decline of Amalfi set in after being sacked by the competing city of Pisa. Only a small scale manifacturing activity survived... |
