Montaione is a quaint village set 373 metres above sea level, dating back to the Middle Age. Within 15 km of the location you may engage in horse-riding, trekking, biking, golf and fishing in Santa Barbara Lake. Nearby, you can also taste some traditional specialities such as truffles, olive oil, and the wine of Villa di Filicaja. Charming medieval villages including Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo, and Volterra, a marvellous Etruscan village, and the wineries of Montespertoli are within easy reach. Florence is only 40 minutes away, and daily tours to Florence, Siena, Pisa, Lucca and the fashion retail outlets are offered by a local company with convenient pick-up at Santa Maria. Stefania and Laura are always readily available for guidance on travel in the area. |

By Car: From the A1: - Leave the motorway at the Firenze Scandicci exit. - Take the Firenze-Pisa-Livorno (blue road signs) main road towards Pisa. - Continue for about 30 km, then take the S. Croce sull’Arno exit. - Turn left towards Ponte a Egola. - At the first roundabout turn right, then at the second one take the 4th exit towards Montaione. - Continue for about 500 metres, then turn right towards Montaione. - Go straight on at the traffic lights and continue towards Montaione. - You will reach a village called La Serra and you will reach a crossroads. - Here turn right and then immediately left (there is a bar on the corner). - Continue straight on for about 3 km passing through the village of Corazzano. - Continue for about 2 km and you will find a small bridge with numerous road signs - do not cross the bridge (towards Montaione), but continue straight on. - You will soon see a road sign saying Alberi. - Santa Maria is about 600 metres further, on the right-hand side. By Train: The nearest stations are Castelfiorentino, San Miniato and Empoli. From there you can reach Santa Maria by taxi. By Air: The nearest airports are Pisa Galileo Galilei (home to some low-cost airlines) and Florence Peretola. |
